Use the Asset wizard to create an entry in the Axeda® Platform for the asset, and to view or modify an existing entry that you selected in the Assets search page.
The Asset wizard prompts you for each configuration value. The wizard presents the information for the asset in the following pages:
o Asset Definition - specify the name, serial number, model, family, ping rate, time zone, and system, and whether or not the asset is muted on creation.
o Asset Organization - specify the organization and location of that organization for this asset. If you do not see the organization you want, click Create new organization to add an organization and location. Similarly, if you see the organization but not the location you want, click Create new location and create an address for the organization.
o Asset Groups - specify the asset group(s) that you want to assign to this asset. If you are using dynamic group definitions to assign assets to asset groups, you can skip this step when adding a new asset; you can also verify the assignments in this step.
o Asset Contacts - specify the contacts and their relationships to this asset.
o Asset Gateway Parameters - specify the parameters to pass to this asset for connection to the related gateway asset; this step applies only to assets that are gateway-managed models (managed by gateway assets that are running the Axeda® Gateway Agent).
o Asset Properties - specify values for properties associated with the model of this asset. If you are using dynamic group definitions to create asset groups from property values set for assets, this step is where you specify the values for those properties. If you are configuring "contactable" devices that communicate with the Axeda Platform through the Axeda Codec Server, this step is where you specify the address (Contact string) for the device. The Axeda Codec Server will use this address to deliver outgoing messages to the device from the Axeda Platform.
o Confirmation - for the configuration in all the preceding pages, save the asset as configured to the Platform; otherwise, change the properties before saving or cancel the configuration altogether.
Warning! When moving backward and forward through the wizard, use the wizard's Back and Next buttons. Do NOT use your browser's tools back and forward tools.
In this page, you can add a new asset or modify an existing asset.
Note: This step of the Asset wizard is NOT available when you choose to edit information from any of the Asset dashboards.
1. Type a name for the asset. This asset name provides a default alias displayed to Applications users for this asset. A value in this field is required to create an asset. You can use up to 500 characters (including alphanumeric and any special characters) in this field. This name is NOT used in communications with the Agent.
Note: This name can be overridden in the Asset dashboard of the Axeda® Service Application.
2. Type a new serial number for this asset. Do NOT use the backslash (\) or colon (:) characters; they are not supported. However, you can use up to 500 alphanumeric and other special characters. This number must be unique within the related model, and is required to create an asset. The serial number and model name are used in communications with the Agent.
Note: Although you can use them, Axeda strongly discourages the use of the following characters in a serial number, as support for them may be phased out in future releases: / ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) + [ ]
3. Select
the model for the asset. The model is required to create an asset. The
models available for selection for this asset appear.
If the model you want is not shown in the Model
Number list, you may need to create it first in the Model
wizard pages.
4. Select the family for the asset: Axeda or Questra. The family you choose depends upon the type of Agent the asset uses. Select Axeda for Axeda Connector, Axeda Gateway, AWP, or Agent Embedded agents. Select Questra for IDM Service and Axeda TotalAccess Server agents.
Note:
If you do not select the correct family, then the asset/agent will fail
to register with the Platform. It is also recommended that all assets
belonging to a single model also belong to the same family.
If the family drop-down is not displayed, then your Platform administrator
has disabled it for your account because all assets belonging to your
account should belong to the same family, and selecting a family is unnecessary.
5. Select the time zone in which the asset is located. If blank, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is assumed.
6. If applicable, select the system for the asset. The
systems available for selection for this asset appear.
If the system you want is not shown in the System
list, you may need to create it first in the System wizard.
7. If you want the asset to be muted, select Mute. You can mute or unmute the asset from the Asset dashboard also.
Notes: No communications to and from muted assets are processed. Use discretion when muting an asset. You cannot mute an asset that is managed by an Axeda Gateway. To mute a managed assets, mute the managing Gateway asset itself. Any managed asset (that is, one defined for management by a managing gateway) created in the Asset wizard will be created as muted automatically.
8. Click Next to view the Asset Organization wizard step.
You cannot change the name, serial number, or model information. To modify that information, delete the entry and create another one.
1. Type the changes to make to the asset.
2. Click
Apply.
After configuring or viewing the asset definition, click Next to configure the organization for this asset.
If you have completed configuring or viewing this asset, click Finish and the Asset Confirmation page of the wizard appears. Note that if you chose to edit the asset from the Asset dashboard, this last page of the Asset wizard is not available.
If you click Cancel and continue canceling, all information configured in this wizard is removed and a list of assets appears.
If you have privileges to change the organization information for a specific asset, in the Asset dashboard of the Service application you can select to edit the information. The Asset wizard - Organization step appears. You can make changes to the Organization, Location, Region, Contact, and Properties information configured for this asset and then save those changes; those changes appear immediately in the Asset dashboard. Note that you cannot edit the information in the Asset definition step of the wizard.
If you have privileges to change the contact information for a specific asset, then in the Asset dashboard you can select to edit this information. The Asset wizard - Contacts step appears. You can make changes to the information configured for the asset and then save those changes; those changes appear immediately in the Asset dashboard.
