In this step, you specify the organization and location of that organization for this asset. This step allows you to select from existing organizations and locations and also to create new organizations and locations. The first procedure in this topic explains how to select from existing organizations and then either create a new location or select an existing location. The second procedure explains how to create a new organization and also how to create a new location.
If you have privileges to change the organization information for a specific asset, this step of the asset wizard appears. You can make changes to the information configured for this asset and then save those changes; those changes appear immediately when you exit this wizard and return to the Asset dashboard.
Important! No matter which
way you access this page to modify the organization (or
region or location) assigned to an existing asset, keep
in mind that changes to this information can change user access to the
asset (for yourself or for other users because organizations, locations, and regions
can be assigned to user groups, limiting users in those groups to accessing
only the assets that are associated with the organizations, locations, and regions
assigned to the user groups.
Platform administrators can prevent inadvertent changes in access to assets
because of changes to organizations, locations, and regions
by preventing users of the Service application from editing this information
(controlled by the privilege, Configuration - Asset - Modify).
1. From
the Organization list, select
the organization for this asset. This field is required to create an asset.
Once you select an organization, all locations defined for that organization
appear in the Location list.
If you need to add a new location to the existing Organization for this
asset, click Create a new location,
and continue to Step
4 of the procedure below. If you change your mind after the page displays
the fields for a new location, click Choose
existing location to return to this point.
2. From the Location list, select the appropriate location for this asset:
§ If the asset is stationary, select the location where the asset is installed.
§ If
the asset is mobile, select an appropriate, stationary location. For example,
you may want to select the originating location for the asset.
The location is required to create
an asset. After you select a location, the address and language associated
with it is displayed. If the language for the location is overriden via
the Axeda Platform SDK, then all assets that use this location will also
inherit the language override, and that language will be displayed instead.
3. If
you entered this wizard from the Configuration application, click Next to continue to the Asset
Groups page. If you entered this wizard from the Asset dashboard,
click Finish to return to the
Asset dashboard.
If you click Cancel and continue
canceling, all information configured in this wizard is removed. Either
the list of assets (home page
for the Configuration application) appears, or, if you are editing the
organization and location from the Asset dashboard, the Asset dashboard
appears.
1. If the organization you want is not shown in the Organization list, click Create new organization.
2. When the page refreshes, type a name in the Organization field. This field is required.
3. In the Description field, type additional information about this organization. This field is optional.
4. Whether you arrive at this step by having added a new organization name and description or by selecting an existing organization and choosing to add a new location, you will now add a new location.
a. From the Region list, select an existing region.
b. In the Location Name field (required), type a name that will uniquely identify the location in the Platform.
c. In the Address line 1 field (required), type the street address for this location.
d. Optionally, type additional address information in the Address line 2 field.
e. In the City field (required), type the name of the city for this location.
f. Optionally, type the State (or province), a postal code (Zip), and the Country for this location.
g. Optionally, enter a Language to be associated with this location. Note that only one language can be associated with each location. If the language for this location is overridden via the Axeda Platform SDK, then all assets that use this location will also inherit the language override, and that language will displayed instead when viewing asset properties in the Axeda Applications.
5. If
you entered this wizard from the Configuration application, click Next to continue to the Asset
Groups page. If you entered this wizard from the Asset dashboard,
click Finish to return to the
Asset dashboard.
If you click Cancel and continue
canceling, all information configured in this wizard is removed. Either
the list of assets (home page
for the Configuration application) appears, or, if you are editing the

appears.
If you have privileges to change the contact information for a specific asset, in the Asset dashboard of the Service application, you can select to edit this information for an asset.
