This page appears for Run Script and Deploy Package actions only. (For the Request Data Item, Set Data Item, Alarm, Data Entry, and Collect Data actions, you can select multiple models.)
Run Script and Deploy Package actions require you to select a specific model to which the action will be available.
Run Script actions enable the Axeda® Platform to run a script on an asset. Only published scripts available to this model appear for configuration as actions.
When the rule associated with this action evaluates to true, the Platform sends a command to the Agent on the related asset(s) to start this script. This script must already exist on the asset. (This action does not first deploy the script to the asset; it assumes the script exists on the asset already.)
To confirm if a script is available and registered on an asset before attempting to start the script on the asset, look for the script in the Axeda® Service Application Asset dashboard Scripts module or Scripts page. If the script does not already appear on the asset, you can use the tools in the Service application to deploy the script to the asset. You can also download the script to the asset through a Software Management package.
Package actions enable the Platform to deploy packages to assets. The Platform ensures that the assets meet any conditions (called Dependencies) for deployment configured in the package. When the Axeda® Agents running on the assets contact the Platform again, the package is deployed (as long as the times of the Platform and the assets are synchronized). The Agents evaluate any additional conditions in the package and then run the applications and/or instructions in the package.
1. Select the model for which you want to create this action. Only models to which you have privileges appear for selection.
Note: If, while editing an action, you modify the model(s) selected for that action, the action may lose its association with any previously configured rules. If this is the case, you will need to recreate those action-rule associations. A message will warn you of these situations if applicable.
2. Click Next.
For a Run Script action, the Configure script for Action page appears: for a Deploy Package action, the Configure deploy package action page appears.
You can view the current status for assets in the Service application home page, Assets by Status module.
In the Service application, Asset dashboard Rules module, you can view and enable or disable the rules configured for a specific asset.
The Service application, Asset dashboard Audit log module, shows a log of activity for the selected asset, including registration, actions run, alarms acknowledged, statuses, usage value setting, and more. Also, if you have privileges to the Administration application, you can search the Audit log for asset, Platform, and user activity.
