View and manage rules

The View and manage rules page shows all rules configured in the Platform, and to which you have privileges (this page does NOT include Expression Rules created either in the UI or through Web Services nor does it include State Rules and Threshold Rules created through Web services).

Note: This topic explains the style of rules available prior to release 6.0 of Axeda® Connected Product Management Applications. For information about the new rules functionality, refer to Expression Rule definition and State Rule definition.

o Name - of the rule; $image\serviceapp_rules_triggeroverride.gif$ indicates the rule contains overrides for asset(s) from the Axeda® Service application. In a Platform where Delegated Administration is enabled, the names of rules may contain a prefix. For details, refer to Names of Objects in DA Units.

o Rule - actual condition evaluated to determine if the actions associated with this rule are executed or not

o Actions - actions executed either on the Platform or on the asset when this rule evaluates to true

o Run Consecutively - if Yes, the actions associated with this rule are executed each time the rule condition(s) evaluate to true; if No, the actions are executed upon the first evaluation to true and are not executed again until the rule evaluates to false and then true again.

o Enabled - A check mark indicate the rule is enabled; if enabled, the rule will be evaluated and its action can be run

Procedures from this page

From this page, you can select to view or edit information for a rule; create a rule; enable or disable a rule; enable rules for selected assets; remove rule overrides for selected assets; or remove rules from the Platform.

How to view more information for a rule

In the Name column of the table, click the name of the rule you want to see.

The Axeda® Platform locates the information configured for the rule and shows the results in the Rule wizard pages. You can add or change the information shown for the selected rule.

How to define new rules

Click Create rule.

The Rule wizard appears for configuration of the new rule.

How to enable and disable rules

To enable a rule for all assets associated with the rule, select the check box in the Enable column.

To disable a rule for all assets associated with the rule, deselect the check box in the Enable column.

Disabled rules are not evaluated; associated actions do not run for disabled rules. Rules disabled from the Configuration application are not available in the Asset dashboards for the related assets.

Note: Rules disabled from the Rules page of the Service application (accessible from the Asset dashboards) appear with the "disabled" identifier.

How to enable rules disabled for selected assets

To enable a rule for selected assets only, click $image\serviceapp_rules_triggeroverride.gif$ .

The Manage rule overrides page appears.

How to remove rule overrides for selected assets

Data Expression rules that contain overrides (as defined for selected assets in Service Application) appear with $image\serviceapp_rules_triggeroverride.gif$ in the table.

To remove a rule's overrides for selected assets only, click $image\serviceapp_rules_triggeroverride.gif$ .

The Manage rule overrides page appears.

How to remove rules from the Platform

1. Select the right-most check box(es) for the rule(s) you want to remove. To remove all rules shown in this page (not the entire table), select the check box in the table heading.

2. Click Delete selected rules. A message appears prompting you to confirm that you want to remove these rules permanently.

3. Click OK. The rules are removed from the table and database.

Tips

o The maximum number of rows supported for returning Platform search results for this type of table is defined in your user preferences, Items Per Page setting (Long table or Short table).

o Use the table navigation tools to view different pages and information in the table.

o Use $image\icon_refresh.gif$ (Refresh link) beside the table navigation tools to refresh the page with the latest Platform results. (Browser Refresh tools do not update the table.)
