Notifications definition

When a trigger condition occurs, the Axeda® Platform can send asset information configured as notifications, to specified users, user groups, roles, or other valid addresses (such as e-mail addresses). Notification actions provide a way for the Platform to pass along information to one or more individuals or groups of individuals based on a rule evaluating to true, or when selected and run manually from the Axeda® Service application, Asset dashboard Actions module, as part of package deployment statuses, or Usage rules, and so on.

The Platform can use various methods for contacting individuals, such as e-mail, pager, or Web alerts. By default, the Platform contains support for e-mail notifications only. To create custom notification styles for your Platform, contact Axeda Technical Support for more information.

In the Enter the details for this new notification page, you define a name for a new notification and name of notification sender. Then you configure the first entry for the notification. A notification entry is a combination of locale, title, and body for the message. You can create additional entries for a selected notification in the Enter the details for a new entry for this notification page. For example, you could create different entries for different locales or different messages.

You can include template placeholders and timestamp placeholders in the body of e-mail notifications. See Configuring template placeholders in e-mail notifications and Configurable time stamp placeholders for e-mail notifications, respectively.

Default notification style for each user

In the User Preferences, Change Notification Styles page, you define your preferred notification style. When the Platform needs to send you a notification, it tries to send the notification in your preferred style selections. If there is no notification entry that matches your preferences, the Platform sends the notification in the closest style and locale (based on other locales and styles supported for the Platform ). You can specify e-mail and pager addresses to which the Platform should send your notifications.

The Platform creates a Web alert for each notification that is generated for you. If a notification is tied to an alarm, the severity of the alarm determines the severity level of the notification. The Platform uses the notification severity level to determine which alert tones to play and how frequently to play those tones. In addition, the Platform also plays a tone for each notification not tied to an alarm (for example, usage rule alarms or package deployment statuses).

For information about security for Notifications, refer to Security for Objects in Axeda® Connected Product Management Applications and for information about security for these objects when Delegated Administration is enabled, refer to Security for Objects in Delegated Administration Units.

In a Platform with Delegated Administration enabled, the names of notifications may have prefixes; for details, refer to Names of Objects in DA Units.
