Use the tools in this page to create notifications that enable the Platform to send asset information to recipients in their preferred locales. After creating a notification, you can configure it as an action that runs based on an associated condition evaluating to true. By default, the Platform is defined with one notification agent, namely e-mail.
When sending a notification, the Platform determines the recipient(s) for the notification and the preferred locale for each recipient (or the default locale if a user has not selected a preferred locale), and then sends the notification as an e-mail message.
For example, you can configure a rule that identifies when a related asset generated an alarm and the value of the data item that caused the alarm to occur. Then you can select this notification for a Notification action and assign it to the rule that evaluates to true when the data item generates an alarm. This functionality provides a way of alerting all concerned users or groups about the alarm on the asset and the information for that alarm.
You can select to allow files to be attached to a notification and to have those attachments be sent in compressed (tar.gzip) format. To have uploaded files attached to a notification, you first create the notification, then create a Send notification action for that notification. Finally, you configure a File Upload rule that, when its condition is true (file upload detected), will run the Send notification action, attaching all uploaded files automatically to the e-mail notification and then sending it to the defined recipients.
Use the tools on this page to create new user notifications. Note that the fields that show an asterisk (*) are REQUIRED. After creating the notification, you cannot change the name of the notification, the e-mail address of the sender, or the Locale. Check your entries carefully before you click Submit.
Under Notification on this page, enter the following information for the Notification:
1. Type a name for the new notification. This field is required and cannot be changed once you create the notification.
2. Type the e-mail address of the sender for this notification. This address must be a valid e-mail address (for example, name@company.com). This field is required and cannot be changed once you create the notification.
Under Notification Entry, enter the following information for the first entry for this Notification.
1. Select the Locale for the recipients. This field is required and cannot be changed once you create the notification. It will be used for ALL entries for this notification. To use a different locale for a notification entry, you need to create another notification.
Note: Once a notification is created with a Locale, no other notification can be created with the same Locale; the Locale is no longer available to select from the menu. In other word, the mapping of a notification to a Locale is unique.
2. Type the title of this notification's message. This field is required and can be edited later.
3. Type the body of this notification's message. In the e-mailed notification, the message body will appear as the body of the e-mail. This field is required and can be edited later.
a. For a list of placeholders that you can include in the body of e-mail notifications, see Configuring template placeholders in e-mail notifications.
b. For a list of configurable time stamp placeholders that you can include in the body of e-mail notifications, see Configurable time stamp placeholders for e-mail notifications.
4. Optional: If you want the Platform to attach files to this e-mail notification, select Allow Attachments.
5. Optional: If you want the Platform to first compress any file attachments for this e-mail notification, select Compress Attachments.
6. Review your entries for the name of the notification, the e-mail address of the sender, and the Locale because you cannot change them later.
7. Click Submit.
o For e-mail notifications, you can include placeholders in the body of the message to substitute information about the asset that triggered this e-mail action, or the time the rule for this action executed.
