In the Axeda Platform, the concept of "Missing" means that an asset cannot be contacted, for whatever reason. The Platform has a scheduled task, called the MissingDevicesTask, that checks for assets that have missed regular contacts ("ping rate") for a specified period of time or have missed a specified number of regular contacts (configured in the Missing Assets step of the Model wizard). These assets may be running an Axeda Agent or wireless assets that are set up to poll the Platform. For these assets, the Missing Assets page shows those assets that the Missing Devices task has determined meet the configured criteria for "Missing".
Note: For an asset to be
listed as missing, its model must be configured to go missing, as defined
in the Model Wizard - Missing
Assets step.
For assets running Axeda IDM Agents that are Occasionally Connected, the MissingDevicesTask detects when these assets are offline and changes their status to Missing. When the assets reconnect, their status returns to Online.
For AWP assets that do not poll the Platform or poll very infrequently and are enabled for shoulder-tap messaging, the MissingDevices task checks the shoulder tap messaging table for those assets that meet the "missing" criteria. A shoulder-tap asset is considered "missing" if the Platform has exhausted the maximum number of retries allowed. For more information about shoulder-tap messaging, refer to Shoulder Tap Messaging for AWP Assets - definition.
For M2M assets that do not poll at all but can respond to a Shoulder Tap message ("contactable" assets) through the Axeda Codec Server, the Last Contact Time updates depend on how the codec handles communications with the assets. Refer to the Axeda® Codec Developer's Kit Guide for complete information.
Notes: The MissingDevices
task checks for missing assets based on a schedule set in the Platform.
For example, the Platform may be set to check for missing assets every
30 minutes and display the results; if this is the case, then the table
updates its list of missing assets every 30 minutes.
If rules are configured to run when a missing asset returns, the rules
are generated the next time the Agent running on the asset contacts the
Platform. For wireless assets that poll the Platform, the rules are generated
the next time the asset polls the Platform. For assets that do NOT poll
the Platform, the rules are triggered when the asset responds to a shoulder
tap message (as long as the codec forwards the response to the Platform).
Muted assets are not included
in the Missing Devices calculation.
For each missing asset, the following information is shown:
Asset missing or not missing icon
Status - shows the current asset condition, represented by an image shown in the color defined in the Configuration application (you can see the currently set asset conditions).
Name - of the missing asset.
Organization - with which the asset is associated.
Location - with which this asset is associated.
Missed contacts - number of consecutive contacts (pings) missed from the asset.
Last contact - date and time the asset last "pinged" the Platform (the date and time are formatted according to your User Preferences settings).
From this page, you can filter the list of assets shown; add selected
assets to your Watch list; view information and properties for an asset.
Click the title of a procedure to display it; click the title again to
hide it:
o Select an option from the Jump to list to see more information or actions for the asset If the asset is muted, you will be restricted to viewing only those pages that do not contain functionality that will result in communications to the muted asset. If the asset is unmuted, all pages to which you have privileges are available. For example, click Available scripts to see a list of all scripts registered for this asset as well as the names of the script authors and descriptions of each script. The options in this list vary from asset to asset.
o The maximum number of rows supported for returning Platform search results for this type of table is defined in your user preferences, Items Per Page setting (Long table or Short table).
o Use the table navigation tools to view different pages and information in the table.
o Use (Refresh link) beside the table navigation tools to refresh the page with the latest Platform results. (Browser Refresh tools do not update the table.)
