About Axeda® Preventive Maintenance

Note: Axeda Preventive Maintenance is a separately licensed application. If your organization does not have a license for it, the Preventive Maintenance application and associated tools and features do not appear in the Axeda® Connected Product Management Applications. (Contact Axeda Technical Support for more information.) This release of the Axeda Preventive Maintenance application does not support Embedded, IDM, or AWP Agents. For a description of the features that are supported for IDM Agents, refer to Axeda® IDM Agents.

For service organizations using operational data from machines and equipment deployed at customer sites, the Axeda® Service and Axeda® Case Management applications provide tools for proactive detecting, diagnosing, and troubleshooting of problems and for managing the information about those service calls. For service organizations providing periodic service to perform preventive maintenance, the Axeda Preventive Maintenance application provides tools to schedule preventive maintenance based on mean failure rates of components and on the usage of machines at customer sites. The Axeda Preventive Maintenance application tracks the operation of machines against preset time intervals and machine cycles. Pages for searching for assets and scheduled maintenance information, and notification rules can help your service organization track machine operation and more effectively schedule preventive maintenance calls.

The Axeda Preventive Maintenance application includes both the concept of calendar time and count value (for example, machine cycles) for each maintenance item. A maintenance item is mapped to one (or more) data item(s) logged by the Axeda® Gateway or Axeda® Connector Agent running on the machine and processed by this application to serve as a type of "odometer" for machine cycles. Each asset can have multiple maintenance items so that you can track and manage different machine components separately. The items are tracked and can be reset independently. With this information at hand, your field service engineers can make informed judgments on all of the parts being tracked and determine which ones need to be replaced or if all need to be replaced in one service call. This knowledge enables your organization to ensure that the necessary spare parts are ordered and arrive in time for the scheduled maintenance.

To set up for maintenance, you need to use the Axeda® Configuration application to configure maintenance items, actions, and rules, as follows:

1.       To configure maintenance items for assets, use the Maintenance Item wizard, available from the New menu in the Axeda Configuration application. Refer to Configuring Maintenance Item actions for instructions.

2.       To configure maintenance actions (Reset Maintenance Item), use the Actions wizard, available from the New menu of the Axeda Configuration application Refer to Configuring Reset Maintenance Item Actions for instructions.

3.       To configure maintenance rules using the Maintenance Message and Maintenance Items triggers, use the Rules wizard, available from the New menu of the Axeda Configuration application. Refer to Configuring Maintenance Item rules for instructions.

Maintenance home

The home page of the Axeda Preventive Maintenance application provides you with search tools so that you can locate maintenance information for the assets to which you have permissions. From this page, you can select individual assets and review maintenance details.

The search tools enable you to locate assets that are overdue for maintenance, that will require maintenance soon, or that have not been used enough to require maintenance.

Maintenance Asset Dashboard

After searching for assets, you can click the name of any asset in the table to display the Maintenance Asset dashboard. This dashboard displays location information for the asset, the maintenance items for the asset (and all the associated information for the maintenance items), and a trend chart for the first maintenance item. If you need additional information about the asset, you can use the Jump to list to select the link to the Asset dashboard. in the Axeda Service application. The Asset dashboard has a link in its Jump to list that will bring you back to the Maintenance Asset dashboard.

Tip

You can display the Maintenance Asset dashboard from the View menu of the Axeda Service application: On the View menu, point to Assets due for Maintenance. Hover over this menu item to display a second-level menu that lists the assets currently due for maintenance. Click the name of an asset to go directly to the Maintenance Asset dashboard for the asset. If you click the Assets due for Maintenance menu item, the Assets due for Maintenance page appears. You can also click the name of an asset in that page to display the Maintenance Asset dashboard for the asset.

Assets and tools shown are based on privileges

Only the assets and tools to which you have privileges (based on your user group assignment) appear for selection and use. This is true of all applications. In fact, if you do not see the application tab (Maintenance), you do not have privileges to the application. Contact your Platform administrator if you cannot access the assets, tools, or applications that your job requires you to use.
