Viewing Files Uploaded from Assets

The Files From Assets page shows a summary list of the asset names and models from which files have been uploaded. At the top of this page is a search/filter area that you can use to filter the list of assets. The names of assets, their models, and locations (if defined) appear in the table below the search area.

When you select the name of an asset from the Asset column, the page refreshes and displays another table in the section on the lower part of the page, Files from <asset_name>, This section allows you to search for specific files or a type of file. The table contains information about the uploaded files for the selected asset, as follows:

o Name - of file. If the file was uploaded as the result of an alarm, $image\alarm_icon.gif$ appears next to the name. Click $image\alarm_icon.gif$ to view a summary of alarm information and add alarm notes.

o Type - This field shows DependencyRegistry if the uploaded file is a dependencies.xml file, containing information used by the Software Management Registry dependency, from the asset. If the file is a snapshot file from the asset, this field shows snapshot. If the file is a provisioning.xml file that sets up dynamic asset groups, this field shows provisioning. This field can also be empty when the file type is not recognized.

o Action - If the status of the upload is not Completed, this column displays the Pause, Resume, and Cancel actions, if appropriate to the asset. The IDM Agents and AWP Agents do not support these actions. If the upload is complete, this column is empty.

Procedures from this page

From this page, you can search for an asset whose files you want to see, search for a specific file, view a file, or delete a file. Click the title of a procedure to display it; click the title again to hide the procedure.

To search for an asset

From this page, you can search for a particular asset and then view the files that have been uploaded from that asset. In the Uploaded Files tab, you can filter by Any Type, which can be DependencyRegistry, provisioning, or snapshot.

To search for a file

From the Files from <asset_name> section of this page, you can search by file name and file type:

1. In the text field above the Name column, type all or part of the name of a file you want to find. You can use a wildcard character (*) in this field to find multiple files with the same extension (for example, *.log) or multiple files with similar names.

2. From the list above the Type column, select the type of file you want to find: (None - all types of files), DependencyRegistry, provisioning, or snapshot.

3. After specifying your search criteria, click Filter to display a list of files that match your criteria.

To view a file

To view a file, click the file name in the list. Your browser will present a File Download dialog box, where you can confirm that you want to Open it, Save it to disk, Cancel the operation, or get More Information.

Depending on the type of file and the applications on your machine, the browser may also ask you to select the application with which to open the file (if you selected Open).

The snapshot files appear in the Axeda Snapshot Viewer.

Notes: When an Axeda Gateway or Axeda Connector agent prepares to upload files to the Axeda® Platform, by default it archives and compresses them using tar/gzip. After the agent has uploaded the compressed file, the Platform unpacks the archive. The Platform keeps the archive file (*.tar.gz) until all the records of the files it contains are deleted. When no more records of the member files exist on the server, the archive is deleted.

Axeda Platform supports large file transfers, where "large" means that the files are larger than 2GB in size. This support allows transfer of files up to 32GB in size. Due to a limitation in tar format, you must disable compression for files larger than 8GB, or results may be unpredictable. For Axeda IDM Agents, the maximum size of a file to be transferred is 2GB; in addition, these agents do NOT support compression.

During installation, your Platform administrator may have set limits for file size. By default, if the size of a file exceeds 8GB, compression is automatically disabled.

To delete a file

To delete a file from the Platform:

1. In the Files from asset table, locate the name of a file that you want to delete.

2. In the rightmost column of the table for that file, select the check box.

3. As needed, repeat steps 1 and 2 for each file you want to delete.

4. Select the Delete Checked Files button.

5. When prompted, click OK to confirm that you want to delete the selected files or Cancel to keep the files on the Platform.

o The maximum number of rows supported for returning Platform search results for this type of table is defined in your user preferences, Items Per Page setting (Long table or Short table).
