Action wizard - Configure set data item action

Set Data Item actions (Category: Asset update actions) enable the Axeda® Platform to write values to data items defined in the target asset. When the rule associated with this action type evaluates to true, the data item information defined in this action is written to the related asset.

Notes: This action applies to all assets of the model(s) selected in the Models for action page. You can use this action for Axeda® Gateway, Axeda® Connector, Axeda® IDM Agent models, and Axeda® Wireless Protocol (AWP) agent models. You CANNOT use it for Axeda® Agent Embedded models.

If you use this action to set a data item that an EDD driver collects (Axeda Gateway or Axeda Connector Agents only), then you can see the change was sent to the Agent's DataMgr component in the Agent console; you can also see the change in the Agent's local copy of Data.html (which is the HTML file for an Agent's configured Data Logger). You will NOT see the value change in the XML file for the driver.

This action cannot be executed through expression rules using the ExecuteAction() action.

BEST PRACTICE: Make sure that all assets of a model are running homogenous agents. For example, all assets of a model may be running Axeda Connector and/or Axeda Gateway, or all assets of a model are running Axeda IDM agents. That way, when selecting models for actions, users are less likely to create or run an action for an asset whose agent does not support it.

To configure Set Data Item actions

1.       Select the name of a data item to which you want to write a value. If you do not see the name in the list, you may first need to create the data item in the Model wizard Data Item page. The data type for the selected data item appears.

Note: Any read-only data items (as defined in the Model wizard, data items page) do not appear in the list of data items to select for writing.

2.       Type the value to write to the data item. The format of this value should match the type of data item selected for this action.

3.       When you are finished, click Next to select the user groups with edit permission for this action. If you click Finish, the action confirmation page appears. If you click Cancel and continue canceling, all information configured in this wizard is removed.

Tips

o        In the Axeda® Service application, Asset dashboard Actions module and Tasks module, you can view the actions configured for the selected asset.

o        The Service application, Asset dashboard Audit Log, shows a log of activity for the selected asset, including registration, actions run, alarms acknowledged, statuses, usage value setting, and more. Also, if you have privileges to the Administration application, you can search the Audit log for asset, Platform, and user activity.

o        Note that if a data item configured in a Set Data Item action is later changed to Read Only, any previously configured Set Data Item actions for that data item are removed from the Platform and no longer appear in the applications (for example, in the Service application, Asset dashboard Actions module or Tasks module).

o        If you run this action, only the Audit Log and Recent Actions modules of the Asset dashboard will show any information about it.

o        On the Axeda Gateway or Connector Agent side, do NOT expect to see a change in the XML file for an EDD driver. However, you can see the change in the Data.html file (the file for the Data Logger configured for the Agent) will show the updated data item. In addition, on the Agent console, you can see a message about the action, as shown here:
