Important! Not all Agents support all features of packages. For complete information about the features of packages supported by agents, refer to Package Features Supported by Axeda Agents.
To create or edit a package, the application provides a wizard that prompts you for the information needed for a package:
1. Package Definition - To describe the package, you type a name for the application to use in displays and internally for the package. Then, you select the Model of asset, and type a version number and a description for the package. If retrying packages is enabled for the Platform, you can select the Enable Package Retry check box so that the Platform will retry the deployment of the package.
Notes: In the Description
field, be sure to type line breaks as you type. Otherwise, the description
in the Confirmation step will show it as a long single line and you will
need to scroll to see it all.
You must type a number in the first box of the version number; the other
boxes can be left empty.
2. Package Dependencies - To add dependencies to the package, you select the type of dependency and then type information appropriate to the dependency.
3. Package Instructions - To add instructions to the package, select one from the list, and then enter the information requested. For example, if you select to download files from the Axeda® Platform to the Axeda® Agent, you need to find the file for the package (browse) and type the path to the Destination directory where the Agent will unpack the file. Then, you select additional options. You must specify at least one instruction, or the application returns an error.
4. Rollback
Instructions - As part
of creating instructions for the package, you can define a set of "on
error" instructions, or "rollbacks," that the agent can
execute anytime an error occurs in processing the base set of instructions
(execute instructions). Rollback instructions are optional.. The agents
that support rollback instructions can execute the rollback instructions
in the following ways:
Automatically
when an error occurs in processing other instructions
On demand,
when a user selects Rollback from the list of actions in the Package Deployment
Manager page
Notes: To add instructions to run in the event that the agent encounters an error while processing the package, you follow the same steps as in step 3.
5. Privileges - You can select user groups and assign them View/Deploy privileges and/or Modify/Delete privileges to a package.
6. Confirmation
- After you have configured the package,
the wizard presents the information in a confirmation page. You can return
to the previous pages to correct anything.
