The Configuration application includes the ability to create and manage External Credentials for the Axeda Platform.
Each credential represents a single account on a remote server, including any values necessary to authenticate against a remote service. Remote services include, for example, a remote Web Service, a remote FTP service, or any remote service requiring authentication. Credentials are used within Custom Objects for external integrations.
Note: Updating a single credential impacts any script associated with the credential.
In order to see the View and Manage External Credentials page, your Platform administrator must give you the appropriate privileges. Once you have privileges, you can create and manage external credentials. Management of external credentials includes applying user groups to credentials.
The availability of credentials to specific users is limited by User Group. You can set User Group associations via the User Group Edit Permissions and User Group View Permissions links in the View and manage External Credentials table. Before you begin assigning user group associations, take note of the following information:
o A credential MUST be associated with one or more user groups, or the credential will only be viewable by the user who created the credential.
o User Groups are associated with credentials to provide greater control over which users can access credentials. There is no limit to the number of user groups that can be associated with any given credential, but note that you can only associate user groups that you have privileges to view.
o There are two lists of groups associated with each external credential:
§ View List -- Users who belong to the User Groups in this list for a specific credential can read the contents of the credential, and the credential will appear in their searches.
§ Edit List -- Users who belong to the User Groups in this list for a specific credential can modify and delete the credential. Membership in this list also results in the same visibility behavior as the View list membership.
o If
a user belongs to multiple user groups with different access to external
credentials, the user is granted the most privileges possible by default.
For example, if you grant a user View only privileges in one user group,
and View and Edit privileges in another user group, and then assign both
user groups to a credential, then the user has the ability to view and
edit credentials.
