View data item values reported by source assets in the Asset dashboards of target assets

When you want to be able to view data item values reported by source assets in the Asset dashboards of target assets, follow these main steps:

1.       Make a list of the source assets and their target assets. You can view asset associations for an asset on the Asset Associations Details page, by clicking the View All link in the Asset Associations module on the source asset's dashboard.

2.       From the View menu of the Axeda Configuration application, select Models.

3.       From the View and manage models page of the Axeda Configuration application, locate a source model, and in the Model Associations column, click the Manage link.

4.       In the Configure Model Associations page, map this source model to the target model.

5.       Map the data items of the source model to the data items of the target model.

Important! When mapping source and target data items, make sure that the data items are of the same data type. Otherwise, the Save operation looks like it works, but in reality, the mapping is NOT saved.

Once you have been running with existing associations, if you add new data items, you must map the new data items of the source model to new or existing data items of the target model for the new data items to appear in the Asset dashboards of target assets.

6.       If you want to be able to view a data item value in both the source and target Asset dashboards, map the source model to itself, the source data item to itself, and the source asset to itself (see Asset, Model, and Self Associations).

7.       Save the association.

8.       Repeat steps 3 through 7 for each source model.

9.       To complete this mapping, you also need to map the assets of the source models to the assets of the target models. To see the data items in the Asset dashboards of the source assets as well as in the dashboards of the target assets, make sure that you map the source assets to themselves.

As needed, refer to the procedures in the topics, Configure Asset Associations and Configure Model Associations.
