Note: This topic assumes that you know what associations are and how they work. For background information, refer to the topics, Associating assets with one another and Asset, Model, and Self Associations.
From the Configure Asset Associations page, you can search for assets to set as source or target associations for the selected asset. After searching for assets, you can add them to the list of Source Associations or to the list of Target Associations.
Important!
When you search for assets, the Platform returns only those assets
to which you have privileges. In addition, to access this page and add
or remove associations, you must have the appropriate privileges. If you
do not see assets that you believe you should be able to see or cannot
take actions that you should be able to use, contact your Platform administrator.
After initially associating models and data items, any new data items for
a source model must be associated with data items of a target model for
them to appear in the Asset dashboards for assets of the target model.
Associations are NOT created automatically for new data items.
If you want to see the alarms, events, uploaded files, and data item values reported by an asset in the Asset dashboard for that asset, associations are not necessary. However, if you want to see this information in the Asset dashboard of another asset, associations allow you to set up the necessary mappings. The following topics provide a general outline of the steps you need to take for associations:
o View data item values reported by source assets in the Asset dashboards of target assets
When you are ready to set up associations, refer as needed to the procedures below and to the procedures to Configure Model Associations.
From this page you can search for assets that you want to set as source or target assets for the asset whose name is shown in the title of the page. You can then set those assets as source and target for the selected asset. Once assets have been configured here, you can remove them or change their association as needed. Click the title of a procedure to display it; click the title again to hide the procedure.
Note: If you delete an asset, the Platform automatically removes the asset from all associations. The Platform does NOT warn you that it is going to delete associations.
