From this first page of the Model wizard, you enter the model name, description, organization, and asset group.
If you are editing an existing model, note that you cannot change the model name (number) or the name of the Default Model Asset Group. To modify that information, delete the model and create another one.
1. Type the new model name (or number). The model name is required. You can use any alphanumeric and special characters in the name. The model appears by this name in the Axeda® Connected Product Management Applications. The model name and serial number of an asset are used in communications with the Agent running on the asset.
Note: The
model number can not be longer than 255 characters. Also, consider the
following behaviors regarding the use of specific characters:
If you use a forward slash in the name of a model here, the Axeda® Platformkeeps the slash
in the model name, but when it creates the name of the Default Model Asset
Group, it replaces the forward slash with a vertical bar or "pipe".
Also, to maximize efficiency of Expression Rules testing, do not use double
vertical bars or "pipes" in the model name.
Use of the following characters in a model name is strongly discouraged,
as support for them may be phased out in future releases: \ / !
@ # $ % ^ & * ( ) + [ ]
2. Type an optional description of the model.
3. Select the name of the model manufacturer (organization). The page automatically refreshes to show the Platform properties configured for this organization. If you do not see the organization for this model, you can create that organization in the organization configuration page (from New menu - Organization).
4. As appropriate to the devices of this model, select the appropriate Communications Profile (also called a "model profile") from the list.
§ Axeda Gateway, Axeda Connector, Axeda Agent Embedded, Axeda IDM Agents - Do not make any selection (leave blank). The .Axeda® Platform will use the eMessage (SOAP) protocol to communicate.
§ AWP requiring Shoulder Tap - Select the model profile named for the Shoulder Tap custom object. you created.
§ Contactable
Models communicating through the Axeda Codec Server - Select the model
profile you created using the custom object that contains the Create ACS-Contactable
Model Profile.groovy script provided with the Axeda Codec Developer's
Kit. .
These profiles are created, updated, and deleted using the Axeda® Platform API and Web services. In addition to profiles that developers create for wireless assets, a general profile for wireless assets running agents written using the Axeda Wireless Protocol toolkit (AWP) is available with the Platform (called "AWP, full threshold capabilities"). For assets that are running the Axeda Gateway, Axeda Connector, or Axeda IDM agents, you do NOT need to create a profile; just select Axeda SOAP Agents here. The Axeda Platform uses SOAP messaging to communicate with these agents.
5. Based
on the model name, Axeda® Platform
creates the name of the Default Model
Asset Group in which all assets of this model will be included automatically.
This name is required, and you can change it at this time (and ONLY at
this time
If the name of the model included a forward slash, then the Axeda® Platform replaces that
slash with a vertical bar or "pipe" in the name of the Default
Model Asset Group.
When assets of this model register or come on-line, they are included in
this asset group automatically, especially for purposes of rules and actions.
Membership in this default asset group holds true even if a dynamic group definition assigns an asset
to another asset group.
6. If the asset group you want is not shown in this list, you may need to create it first in the Administration application, Create an asset group page.
7. Select the type of model to create: Gateway (assets of this model are Axeda® Gateway instances); Gateway Managed Model (assets of this model are managed or may be managed by an Axeda Gateway agent); Standalone Model (assets of this model are not managed by an Axeda Gateway agent; use this option for assets running Axeda IDM Agents or AWP Agents).
