Deploying a Package

To deploy a package from the Home page of the application, select Deployment from the New menu. Alternatively, you can select a package in the Package Manager page and click Deploy. The application provides a five-step wizard that prompts you for package, destination, and scheduling information. If you access the wizard from the Package Manager, the application presents Step 2 because you have already completed step 1.

The entire set of steps for the deployment wizard follows:

  1. Select a Package - This page presents a list of packages based on the Model of asset you select. You can select a model and then select the package to deploy.

  2. Select Deployment Type -- To see this page, you must have the appropriate privilege and the model associated with the package must be running an Axeda Gateway, Axeda Connector, Axeda Agent Embedded, or Axeda IDM Agent (AWP does NOT support automatic deployments, so this page is skipped). In this page, you select the Type of deployment:

  1. Select Assets - This page is visible only if you select Manual Deployment or if the model is running an AWP agent. This page presents a list of assets that belong to the selected model. You can select multiple assets. The page allows you to filter the list of assets by location and status.

  2. Schedule Package Installation - In this page, you can schedule the package for immediate or delayed execution for either type of deployment. If you choose the latter, you are prompted for the date and time. If you have selected a Manual Deployment and multiple assets for that deployment, you are prompted for an interval. For Automatic Deployments, the deployment task performs the deployments to assets, depending on the availability of the bandwidth at the time of deployment.

  3. Notification - For Automatic Deployments, you can select to be notified of errors that may occur during the deployment and then specify a user, group, and/or e-mail address for notification. For Manual Deployments, this page allows you to select the events that you want to know about during the deployment of the package. You can select to be notified of errors and/or when the package installation is complete. You can then select a user, a group, and/or e-mail addresses for notification.

  4. Confirmation - As with the package creation wizard, the last page of the deployment wizard presents the information to you in the last page. You can return to previous pages to make corrections as needed. When you click Finish, the package is deployed based on the deployment type and on the schedule you set up. If you selected Manual Deployment and immediate deployment, the package is deployed the next time the agent running on a selected asset contacts the Axeda® Platform. If you selected Automatic Deployment and immediate deployment, the task that checks which assets are online starts.
