Creating or Editing a Maintenance Item

Maintenance Items are associated with Assets in the Platform. Creating or editing them requires you to have privileges to the asset and the Configuration application as well as the privileges to create or edit maintenance items. Creating and editing maintenance items are multi-step processes that use the same wizard to guide you. The following procedure explains these steps and provides links to topics that discuss the page of the wizard where you perform them.

Note: Axeda Preventive Maintenance is a separately licensed application. If the Platform is not licensed for it, the Preventive Maintenance application and associated tools and features will not display in the Applications. (Contact Axeda Technical Support for more information.) Also, your ability to add or edit maintenance targets is controlled by user group privileges. Contact your Platform administrator if you have questions about your privileges.

Warning! When moving backward and forward through the wizard, use the wizard's Back and Next buttons. Do NOT use your browser's back and forward tools.

How to create or edit a maintenance item

  1. In the first page of the Maintenance Item wizard, type a unique name and a description for the maintenance item. (See Maintenance Item Wizard: Name and Description).

  2. Create one or more sources for the maintenance item. In this context, the source is a unique combination of one Model and one Data Item. In addition to selecting a Model and Data Item in this step, you also select a Type of maintenance item. Types of maintenance items are Cumulative, Incremental, and Counter. (For definitions of the types, see Maintenance Item Wizard: Create Source for)

Note: The Models and Data Items must already be configured in the Platform to associate them with a maintenance item. If you do not have a data item that the Axeda Agent is currently returning from the asset to associate with the maintenance item, you need to add the data item before you can continue this process.

  1. Configure Target values and reminders. In this step, you set up the maintenance Intervals, in terms of Count (a number of machine cycles) and Time (a number of days). You also configure reminders for Count and Time and assign them Before or After and either a number of machine cycles or a number of days. As you enter values for the reminders, the Platform calculates exact values for the reminders. For example, suppose you configure Time as 100 days, Count as 3000, and Reminder 1 as Before 200 for Count and Before 5 days for Time. The Count for Reminder 1 is 2800, and the Time for Reminder 1 is 95 days. (See Maintenance Item Wizard: Configure Target Values and Reminders)

Note: You can configure either Count or Time or both. You must select one of them and enter a value. The Reminders are not required.  The Reminders must be positive numbers, with a decimal part. For example, 100.50. The Interval values must be positive numbers. For example, 200.

  1. Review the configuration of the maintenance item. As needed, go back and make changes. When ready, create the item. (See Maintenance Item Wizard: Confirmation)
