Maintenance Item Wizard: Create Source for Maintenance Item: <name>

Warning! When moving backward and forward through the wizard, use the wizard's Back and Next buttons. Do NOT use your browser's back and forward tools.

This second page of the Maintenance Item wizard allows you to associate this maintenance item with one or more combinations of Model, Data Item, and Type.

Note: You cannot select the same combination of Model and Data Item more than once.

Follow these steps to create each source for the maintenance item:

1.       From the Model list, select a Model for this maintenance item. The list of models shows only those models to which you have privileges.

2.       From the list of Data Items for the Model you selected, select an analog Data Item for this maintenance item.

Notes: This list of data items includes only the analog data items (not the digital or string data items).  You will not see the Maintenance Item in the Asset dashboard (Axeda® Service application) until the asset sends in a value for the associated data item.

3.       From the Type list, select the appropriate type of maintenance item for this combination of Model and Data item; the default Type is Counter:

§         Incremental -- A delta value that is the difference between the value just received and the previous value received for the data item. For example, if the first value received is 100 and the second value is 500, the incremental maintenance item contains the value 400.

If this type of maintenance item is associated with a counter, a reset of the counter to 0 causes the value of the item to be set to 0. For example, suppose a counter represents the number of machine cycles and is reset to zero when the machine is powered off The counter returns the values 1, 2, 3, 4, off (reset to 0), 1, 2, 3, off, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The value of an incremental maintenance item associated with this counter is 4 - 4(the reset to 0) +3 =3 +5, for a total of 5. If you want to know the total number of machine cycles, use the Counter type instead.

§         Cumulative - A maintenance item that contains the total of all values received for the data item. The value rises as new positive values are received and falls as new negative values are received. For example, if the first value received is 1, the second is 2, the third 3, and the fourth -2, the cumulative maintenance item has a value of 4 after receiving the fourth value.

§         Counter (the default) - A cumulative value that, when the received value resets the data item to zero (for example, when the machine is powered off), keeps the most recent value and does not subtract all values. For example, suppose a counter represents the number of machine cycles and can be reset to 0 when the machine is powered off. The counter returns the values: 1, 2, 3, 4, off (reset to 0), 1, 2, 3, off, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Each time the value is reset to 0, the maintenance item retains the immediately preceding value; in this example, it keeps the values 4 and 3. The value of the maintenance item is 4 + 0 + 3 + 0 + 5 = 12.

4.       To add the source to the list of Model Targets in the lower part of the page, click Add.

5.       Repeat steps 1 through 4 to add other sources for the maintenance item. For example, if you have several laser printers of the same model at the same site that will require new toner cartridges after a specified number of printed pages, you might create one maintenance item for all the printers and associate the data item from each printer that returns the number of pages printed. The maintenance item tracks all the printers at the site for the number of pages printed.

If you need to remove any Model Targets, select the check box for the defined target in the table, and click Remove Checked.

6.       Click:

§         Next to save the sources and continue to the next step, Configure Target Values and Reminders.

§         Back to return to the previous page and make changes.

§         Cancel to exit the wizard without saving anything and return to the View and manage Maintenance Items page.
