The View and assign assets to this remote server page allows you to assign specific assets to a GAS server.
By default, the Platform uses an algorithm to determine which Global Access Server (GAS) to use for a remote session with an asset. This algorithm may determine that a separately-installed Global Access Server that is located near the asset or one that is located near the user requesting the remote session is best equipped to handle the remote session. It may also determine that the internal remote access server of the Platform is best to use. This server is always listed as "Internal" in the View Global Access Server page.
To bypass this algorithm and use one specific GAS server for remote sessions with one or more assets, you can assign one or more assets to that GAS server from the page, View and assign assets to this remote server. Alternatively, you can assign one or more GAS servers to a specific asset from the page for assigning GAS servers to an asset, which is available by clicking the Assign Remote Servers button in the Remote Sessions page for an asset (accessible through the Remote Sessions module on the Asset dashboard for every asset in the Platform).
By default, the Selected Assets table is empty, which means that the Platform will use the algorithm to determine which GAS server to use. The Platform uses the algorithm each time a user requests a remote session with the asset. As long as you have not assigned these assets to any other GAS server, assigning assets to the selected server in this page means that you are disabling the algorithm and directing the Platform to always use the selected server for remote sessions with the assets specified here.
Notes:
If you assign more than one GAS server to an asset, the Platform
uses the same algorithm but only on the specific GAS servers assigned
to the asset.
You must have Administrator privileges to view and make changes on this
page. Being a member of a user group that has been assigned the "Service
- Asset GAS Assignments - Manage" privilege does NOT allow you to
view and make changes on this page.
Any changes you make here also appear in the page
for assigning remote (GAS) servers to an asset in the
Axeda Service
application.
The Available Assets table provides search tools that allow you to find the assets that you want to assign to the selected GAS server. The table provides the simple search tools as well as the Advanced search tools that are available in other Axeda® Connected Product Management Applications.
o If an asset assigned to the GAS server has been assigned to other GAS servers, the asset retains the remaining assignments.
o If the asset has not been assigned to any other GAS server, the default algorithm takes over when remote sessions are requested with that asset. The algorithm determines which GAS server is the closest and best equipped to handle the remote session.
From this page, you can filter the list of available assets using the simple or Advanced search criteria and then assign them to the selected Global Access Server. In addition, you can remove assets from the selected Global Access Server. To display a procedure, click the title; to hide the procedure, click the title again:

o The maximum number of rows supported for returning Platform search results for this type of table is defined in your user preferences, Items Per Page setting (Long table or Short table).
o Use the table navigation tools to view different pages and information in the table.
o Use (Refresh link) beside the table navigation tools to refresh the page with the latest Platform results. (Browser Refresh tools do not update the table.)
