Requesting File Uploads

Axeda Platform supports simple file transfers (without your having to create a "package"). Using the Axeda® Configuration application, you can configure Actions that upload and download files and then use those actions in the Asset dashboards of your assets (Axeda® Service application). Using the Software Management application, you can create File Upload Requests. This topic explains how to do this.

Axeda Platform supports large file transfers, where "large" means that the files are larger than 2GB in size. This support allows transfer of files up to 32GB in size. However, due to a limitation in tar format, you must disable compression for files larger than 8GB or results may be unpredictable. When compression is disabled, you can transfer only one file at a time.

Note: The Axeda IDM Agents do not support compression, so the maximum file size for transfers for these agents is 2GB.

During installation, your Platform administrator may have set limits for file size. By default, if the size of a file exceeds 2GB, compression is automatically disabled.

If all you need to do is upload files from assets, you do not need to create a package. To upload files from an asset running an Axeda® Agent to the Axeda Platform, you can use another wizard (New | Upload Request):

1.       Select Assets - In this page, select the assets from which you want to upload files. Note that you cannot selected to upload files from muted assets.  If an asset is muted, it will not appear for selection when requesting file uploads. Once an asset is unmuted, you can select it for file uploads.

2.       Describe Files - In this page, provide the following information:

File Specification
Refer to the notes for your Agent:

Axeda Gateway and Connector Agents
Axeda IDM Agents
AWP Agents

Do not apply compression before uploading (this setting may be overridden based on file size).
Refer to the notes for your Agent:

Axeda Gateway and Connector Agents
Axeda IDM Agents
AWP Agents

Path is relative to asset's home directory.
Refer to the notes for your Agent:

Axeda Gateway and Connector Agents
Axeda IDM Agents
AWP Agents

Delete from asset after successful upload.

You can use this option with all Axeda Agents.

3.       Confirmation - As in the other wizards, this page presents the information for the upload. You can return to previous pages to make corrections. When you click Finish, the request for upload is sent to the selected assets.

Tip

o        The Uploaded Files module on an Asset dashboard in the Axeda® Service application shows a list of all files uploaded from a selected asset; from that page, you can open a file, save a file to disk, and remove a file from the Platform. Note that files will note be uploaded from muted assets.

o        In the Software Management application, you can find assets from which files have been uploaded and view the uploaded files using the Files From Assets page.
