Reasons describe the asset problems associated with cases. For example, a reason of Alarm for a case could indicate that the case was created based on an alarm. (There are no default reasons.)
Reason settings are required for a case; a case must have an associated reason. When you create a case, you assign the reason for that case.
You can modify the list of available Reasons, by removing reasons or adding new ones; for example, ones that are specific to your business or industry. The list of Reasons can be modified in the Case application, Case Attributes menu. In order to modify reasons, you need to be defined in a user group that has the appropriate privileges. Contact your server administrator for more information about your user group privileges.
Reasons for a case can be specified manually or automatically if defined as such in a rule or through web services. Each time the reason for a case is updated, the server logs that activity in the Audit Trail.
