Quick Launch is a feature of the Axeda Platform and Axeda® Service application that enables you to start a remote desktop session with an asset quickly and easily. As long as you are accessing the Service application from a Windows or Linux computer, you can take advantage of Quick Launch. You first need to navigate to the Asset dashboard for the asset that you want to access using a desktop session. From the Remote Sessions module of the Asset dashboard, click the Desktop link. As long as a Platform administrator has configured the viewer application for the model of asset to launch automatically (see Model Remote Interfaces page and Editing a Remote Interface for details), Quick Launch can automatically download (if necessary) and start the viewer application for the asset.
Note: This feature is not currently supported by TotalAccess Server and the Axeda® IDM Agents. The Axeda Gateway and Axeda Connector Agents and Axeda Agent Embedded all support this feature. For Axeda Agent Embedded, only Remote Desktop sessions are supported. For Axeda Gateway and Axeda Connector, Remote Desktop, Remote Terminal (Telnet, for example), Remote Browser, and Remote Application sessions are supported.
Note that Quick Launch downloads the viewer if it does not already exist on your computer or, for Axeda Desktop Viewer, if the file name of the executable on your computer does not match the file name of the executable currently stored on the Platform. The Platform looks for an exact match of the file names, so simply by starting a remote desktop session you can upgrade your version of Desktop Viewer whenever an upgrade is made available on the Platform. (If you do not want to start a session but want to check for a new version, click the Download link; the Platform performs the same check for matching file name and downloads a new version if necessary.)
Quick Launch can also download and launch applications that have been configured as Remote Application sessions in the Builder project that the Axeda Gateway or Axeda Connector Agent is running on an asset and that has been copied to the machine running the Axeda® Platform. You configure a remote application from the Model Remote Interfaces page in much the same was as a viewer application. For an example using the PuTTY application, click here; click again to hide it.
The Launch Application button is enabled after the viewer is downloaded. At that point, you can click the button to start the downloaded viewer application.
Another way to obtain the appropriate viewer for an asset is to click the Download Viewer link.
