Parent Server Configuration step

  1. Type the name of the alias to use for the parent server. This field is required for parent server configuration.

  2. Type the host name or IP address identifying the parent server. This field  is required for parent server configuration.

  3. Type the port number used for communications with the parent server. This number is required and there is no default used.

  4. Type the rate at which this Axeda® Enterprise Server pings the parent server to identify its health. This value is a number of seconds, and is required for parent server configuration. The ping rate you set must be equal to or greater than the Post rate set for the server. The Post rate set is shown in the following "must be greater than or equal to <post rate> seconds."

Note: This server queues all ping messages received from its assets. When this server posts to the parent server, it forwards all queued information to that server.

The parent server uses this ping rate to track missing assets. To the parent server, all assets of this child server appear to have this same ping rate. For each ping period the parent server expects ping messages from each asset of the child server.

  1. If this Enterprise Server uses SSL encryption, select that check box to ensure that SSL encryption is used for communications with the parent server.

Note: If you select to use SSL, both the parent and the child server need to be configured with SSL support.

  1. If this Enterprise Server is located behind a proxy server, select that check box to ensure that communications with the parent server use the proxy server as usual.

If there is a proxy server, you need to provide the following information:

  1. If you want to test the Axeda® Platform's ability to connect to the parent server at the specified settings, keep the Test this connection now check box selected (selected by default). If you do not want to test the connection right now, clear that check box.

  2. When you are finished configuring or viewing the parent server properties, click Next to configure the information this server will forward to the parent server. If you selected to test the connection, a message will appear showing the results of the test, for example:

Or

If you click Cancel and continue canceling, all information configured in this wizard is removed and the Administration home page appears.
