Create usage item and edit usage item names, components, or targets

You can create usage items in the Axeda® Platform that are mapped to actual data items read from assets. Usage items track the actual use of an asset. The usage items are not tied to any specific model, but generic enough to cover the same type of data being read from many different assets and models, all doing the same processing. For example, different data items in copier assets of different models can be mapped to a single usage item, Number of Copies.

Usage items are stored as two values in the Platform: the running value (or cumulative total) and the difference between the last sampled value and the current value (incremental or delta value). The values are used in different ways throughout the Usage application within analytics and analytics searches, and when creating and running rules against the database.
