Create usage item and edit usage item names, components, or targets

1.       Type a name for the new usage item. A name is required and must be unique in the Platform.

2.       Type an optional description for the item.

3.       Click Create. The Data Components table appears, showing no data components yet defined for this usage item. You need to map the available data items to this usage items: these data items provide the data value for the usage item.

4.       Below the Data Components table, click Add New.

5.       Use the Create usage item source page to add the data item(s) for this usage item.

6.       After adding data component(s) to the usage item, click Targets to create targets specific to this usage item. In the target creation page, you can set the global, model, organization, and asset targets for this usage item.

7.       To return to the usage item creation page from the target creation page, click the Configuration tab heading and then click the name of the usage item in the list of available usage items.

Once the usage item is created, with a name and description, you can configure the data components and targets for that item, as well as delete any propertied defined for the item.

 

1.       For the displayed usage item, click Add New below the table.

2.       In the displayed usage item source creation page, create all the data components to include in this usage item. Each data component is comprised of the model containing the data to track; the data item from assets of that model to track; and the value for the data item that this usage item will contain.

For example, you can create a usage item, "Total Fax Copies," that maps to different data items in different assets in different models. For assets of type ModelA, data item Countable_3 may provide the count for fax copies; for assets of type ModelXYZ, data item Countable_X may provide the count for fax copies. You would want to add both of these data items as data components for the Fax Copies usage item. In addition, because you want the total (actual) number of fax copies, you should specify the Cumulative type for each of these data components.

 

1.       For the displayed usage item, click Add New below the table.

2.       In the displayed usage item source creation page, create all the data components to include in this usage item. Each data component is comprised of the model containing the data to track; the data item from assets of that model to track; and the value for the data item that this usage item will contain.

For example, you can create a usage item, "Total Fax Copies," that maps to different data items in different assets in different models. For assets of type ModelA, data item Countable_3 may provide the count for fax copies; for assets of type ModelXYZ, data item Countable_X may provide the count for fax copies. You would want to add both of these data items as data components for the Fax Copies usage item. In addition, because you want the total (actual) number of fax copies, you should specify the Cumulative type for each of these data components.

 

1.       Select the check box related to each data component you want to delete from the model. If you want to remove all data components defined for the selected model, select the check box in the table heading.

2.       Below the table, click Remove Selected. In the displayed confirmation dialog box, click Yes.

3.       If there are multiple pages of data components for this table and you need to remove more data components from this usage item, move to the next page and repeat steps 1 and 2 (above).

 

1.       For the displayed usage item, type a new name and description as needed.

2.       Remove data components or add new ones, as explained in the "How to remove data components from a usage item" and "How to select to create data components for usage item" procedures.

Note: You should not change the data item configured for a usage item that is already being used in the Platform. The page warns you of the danger of corrupt usage data if you do select to choose s different data type for a selected data item. If you do want to select a different data type, click in the displayed message and the data Type will be available for editing.

3.       Add new targets or modify existing one, as explained in the "How to select to create targets for a usage item" procedure.

4.       When you are finished making changes to the usage item, click Update to save the changed usage item. The modified usage item appears in the displayed usage items list page.
