Custom Application definition

Using Axeda Platform, you can create business applications for your use and that of your customers. Axeda Platform can host Rich Internet Applications (RIA) created in a number of toolsets, including HTML+JavaScript (AJAX), HTML5, Adobe Flash, or Microsoft Silverlight. In all of these cases, the Platform would deliver the RIA application to the browser in the form of an HTML file, JavaScript files, SWF or XAML files, or a combination of the above. For example, you can create a custom application that contains multiple applications or a suite of pages that provide navigation between Axeda application pages. Or you can create a single custom application that replaces the standard Axeda Application Home page. When the application is complete, you combine the files in to a .zip file and upload to the Platform, which will host it and make it available to other Platform customers.

Note: To upload or manage custom applications, you need to be an Administrator in the Platform or have privileges to the Administration application.

You manage and view custom applications from the Administration application. From the Administration application, Extensions menu, select Stand-alone Applications. (It should be noted that the terms "Extensions", "Stand-alone Applications", and "Custom Applications" are used interchangeably.) The View and manage custom applications page is shown. The custom application you upload will be accessible at a URL you specify, which is rooted at your Platform address. You custom applications are rendered entirely on the client (and the data is retrieved asynchronously from the Platform). Axeda Platform is not responsible for rendering but only for serving the static RIA artifacts to the client system, and processing data requests.

You can configure your custom applications to render as standalone applications or from extended tabs. If you select Standalone mode, then the custom application is launched in full screen mode on top of the Axeda Applications. No other specifications are needed. If you select Extended Tab, then you will also need to specify how that tab appears in the Applications.
