Selecting Properties for a Dynamic Group

The second page for the dynamic group wizard prompts you to select the properties whose values will create asset groups dynamically. As you select the properties, you also set up the hierarchy by putting the properties in order, from the top level to the bottom level.

The list of properties is derived from the models that are assigned to the selected Parent Asset Group. If you do not see a property that you expect, it may be that the selected parent asset group does not have any of the appropriate models or assets that have been assigned that property. To add a property through the Axeda® Configuration application, you can use the Properties page of the Model wizard for a model that is a member of the asset group. You can also provision assets with the property information before they register with the Platform. For more information about provisioning assets for purposes of creating asset groups dynamically, refer to Provisioning Assets with Property Values for Dynamic Group Definitions.

How to select properties and set up the hierarchy

1.       In the table of Available Asset Properties, locate and select the check box for the property whose values will create the top-level asset group for the hierarchy. If you add properties one at a time, select the property that you want at the top of the hierarchy first, then the property for the second level, and so on. This way, you avoid having to re-order the properties.

If the table shows only properties that you want to use for the dynamic group, you can click Add All and continue to step 4. The properties will appear in the Selected Asset Properties table in the order in which they appear in the Available Asset Properties table; you may need to re-order them.

2.       Click Add Checked to move the selected property to the Selected Asset Properties table.

If you want to remove a property from the Selected Asset Properties table, select its check box and click Remove Checked. To remove all the properties from this table, click Remove All.

3.       If you selected only one property, repeat steps 1 and 2 for the second level property, the third level property, and so on.

4.       In the table of Selected Asset Properties, you can change the order of the properties by selecting the check box(es) for one or more properties and then clicking Move Down or Move Up. Repeat this step until your list is in the order, from top to bottom, that you want for the hierarchy of asset groups.

5.       Click Next to display the Confirmation page.

Important! When assigning values to the properties that will create the hierarchy, make sure that the fully qualified path name of the asset group will not exceed 4000 characters. If the fully qualified path name exceeds 4000 characters, the asset group is NOT created. This limitation is a limitation of the Platform.
