Running a Report

You can run a report in different ways:

o        By clicking the report name on the Report home page. When you use this option, the Platform either uses or displays the currently set parameter values (Prompts only) for the report. If you want to change the output options (format, language, and delivery method), either run the report as is and change the viewing option once it has run or use the Run link in the Actions column.

o        By clicking the Run link in the Actions column for the report. When you use this option, the Run with options page appears. In this page, you can set options and parameters for this particular run of the report. Any settings you choose are not saved for the next run of the report. If you need assistance with this page, click the Help link in the blue heading bar that contains the page title.

When using this option, the values you select are for the current run of the report only. The properties are the same as those on the Report tab of the Set properties page. After setting these properties, click Run to generate the report.

Before a report can run, the Platform needs information from you; you supply this information in the form of properties. Default properties for a report are set either when the owner creates the report or by a user with the appropriate permissions clicking the Prompts link in the Actions column. The Prompts link displays the Set properties page, with the Report tab shown by default. The properties for a report include:

o        Default action - An enumerated list of actions: View most recent report, Run the report, or Open with Report Studio (for a Report)

o        Report options (output) - Format, Orientation (for PDF format only), Paper size (for PDF format only), and Language plus an option to override the default values

o        Prompt values - The range of values for collecting data for the report

o        Run as the owner - An option to run the report using the security credentials of the owner

All reports have settings that are used by default for the Default action, output options, and Run as owner. However, some reports (in particular, the standard reports shipped with the Platform) may have no saved prompt values and require that you specify them. This situation is particularly true for reports that may result in a large volume of data being collected.

Warning! After setting up a report and running it, use the Run button in the generated report page (image\icon_report_run_run_report_again.gif) if you want to change the settings and run the report again. Do NOT use your browser's Back button to return to the setup page. The setup pages will not operate correctly if you use the browser's Back button.
