Global Access Server definition

Axeda remote sessions define communication connections between remote assets and remote users, and are supported through the use of Axeda® Access, Axeda® Global Access Servers, and Axeda's application bridge technology. By using one or more Axeda Global Access Servers, remote sessions can be created from greater distances, and under optimal connection conditions and performance requirements. These are "global access sessions".

Global Access Servers enable remote sessions to be processed outside of the main Axeda® Platform. During global access sessions, the remote connections are processed through the Global Access Server located closest to the remote asset and best equipped to support the connection.

By default, the Axeda Platform uses an algorithm to determine the closest and best equipped Global Access Server for a requested remote session. If your IT organization requires that only one URL be used for remote session requests, you can override this algorithm by assigning assets to a Global Access Server in the Administration application or by assigning a specific Global Access Server to a specific asset from the Asset dashboard (Axeda® Service application). To assign one or more GAS servers to an asset, display the Asset dashboard for the asset, and then click the Assign Servers link in the Remote Sessions module. Refer to Assigning remote servers to an asset for details. Similarly, you can assign assets to a particular GAS server from the Administration application. Refer to Assigning assets to a remote (GAS) server for details.

Note: The Axeda® IDM Agents currently do not communicate with the Axeda Global Access Server. Instead they use the TotalAccess Server. Refer to Axeda® IDM Agents for a description of the supported features of these agents.
