From this page, you enter the information for a new Delegated Admin Unit (DA Unit). The required information includes the Name, the "root" Asset Group for the DA Unit, the user name for the Delegated Administrator, and the password for the Delegated Administrator.
Note: Only Axeda® Connected Product Management Applications
Platform Administrators and Delegated Administrators can create Delegated
Admin Units. To be able to create sub-Delegated Admin Units, the Delegated
Administrators must have privileges to view and edit Users and User Groups
in addition to the privileges to view and edit Delegated Admin Units.
Without the complete set of privileges, they will see the "Access
Denied" message when they try to create sub-Delegated Admin Units.
To learn how security is managed for Axeda Applications objects with Delegated
Administration, refer to Security
for Objects in Delegated Administration Units.
1. In the Name field (required), type a unique identifier for the Delegated Admin Unit. Keep in mind that the Platform automatically creates a user group that contains this name when the Delegated Admin Unit is added. The Name can be up to 50 characters in length; however, it is recommended that you keep the names as short as possible. The name can contain ONLY the following characters: a - z; A - Z; 0 - 9; period ("."); and underscore ("_"). Spaces and any other special characters not listed here are NOT permitted.
2. In the Description field (optional), type a brief explanation of the client organization that this Delegated Admin Unit represents. You can use up to 500 characters; if you exceed 500 characters, the Platform presents an error message when you click Next.
3. From the Asset Group list, select the Asset Group that will serve as the "root" Asset Group (or top Parent Asset Group) for all new asset groups created in this Delegated Admin Unit. Note that you cannot select any of the Default Model Groups (when you add a model in the Configuration application, the Platform adds a name for the default asset group for the model, based on the name of the model; in addition, when automatic creation is enabled for models and assets, these groups are created when the assets first register with the Platform).
Caution: Do NOT select the Root Asset Group unless you want the members of this Delegated Admin Unit to have access to all other assets in the Platform. If you are a Delegated Administrator, you will see only the asset groups associated with your Delegated Admin Unit; unless the Platform Administrator made the Root Asset Group the top level group for your Delegated Admin Unit, you cannot see the Root Asset Group for the Platform.
4. In the Delegated Administrator User Name field, type the name you want to use for the Delegated Administrator. The Platform creates this user in the LDAP directory service for Delegated Administration. This value is required and is used as the directory service User ID for this user. With the password, this name is used as the Axeda Applications account for this user. The user name can contain ONLY the following characters: a - z; A - Z; 0 - 9; period ("."); and underscore ("_"). Spaces and any other special characters not listed here are NOT permitted. The user name cannot exceed 50 characters, or the Platform will present an error message when you click Next.
Note: Within the Axeda Applications
Platform, user and user group names must be unique. If a user name already
exists in the primary directory service, you cannot use that name for
a Delegated Administrator or for any other user in the directory service
for Delegated Administration. The same is true for user group names. If
the user group name exists in the primary directory service, you cannot
use it when creating user groups in the directory service for Delegated
Administration.
When creating a Delegated Admin Unit within another DA Unit, the Platform
uses the DA Unit associated with the Delegated Administrator as the Parent
of the new DA Unit.
5. In
the Delegated Administrator Password
field, type the password for the Delegated Administrator. The password
must be at least 6 characters in length. There are no restrictions on
the type of characters supported, so *, &, %, all numbers, all letters,
and so forth can be used in the password. This field is required.
The Platform will present an error message if the password contains less
than 6 characters.
Note: Remember that the password will be case-sensitive, so if you type a password of "NewPassWord" you will need to type the same uppercase and lowercase letters each time you use that password.
6. In the Confirm Delegated Administrator Password field, type the password again, exactly as in the preceding Password field. The Platform presents an error message if the two passwords do not match. This field is required.
7. Optional:
In the Delegated Administrator E-Mail Addresses
field, list all relevant delegated administrator e-mail addresses separated
by commas.
8. Click Next to display the Confirmation page.
