The Create/Edit dynamic group page is the first page of the Dynamic Group wizard. In this page, you enter a name and a description for the dynamic group. Then, you select an existing asset group in which to create the hierarchy of asset groups for this dynamic group. This asset group is the Parent Asset Group for the dynamic group.
Before you can create a dynamic group, the properties whose values will be used to create a hierarchy of asset groups must be defined in the Platform. Currently, properties are defined for models and values defined for the individual assets of the models. Before the dynamic group definition can run, the assets must provide values for the properties. For details about provisioning assets for dynamic group definitions, refer to Provisioning Assets with Property Values for Dynamic Group Definitions.
In addition, the Parent Asset Groups in which you want the Platform to create the hierarchy of asset groups must exist in the Platform. If the selected Parent Asset Group has multiple models assigned to it, then the properties defined for all of the models are available for use in creating a dynamic group hierarchy.
1. In the Name field, type a unique name for this dynamic group, using a maximum of 50 alphanumeric characters.
2. In the Description field, type a description of the hierarchy that this dynamic group definition will create. You can use up to 2,000 alphanumeric characters.
3. From the list, select the Parent Asset Group in which the Platform will create the hierarchy.
4. Click Next to select the properties and set up the hierarchy.
