Poll Rate definition

The poll rate defines how often an asset configured for unattended operation contacts the Axeda® Platform for activities related to unattended operation. The poll rate is defined in seconds. The initial poll rate is set in Axeda® Access Remote or Axeda® Desktop Server.

When an asset running Access Remote or Desktop Server polls the Platform, the following can occur:

o        If this is the first time the asset polls the Platform, the user-defined server name and poll rate of the asset are sent to the Platform, added to a table of assets configured for unattended operation, and assigned a unique ID. That unique ID is sent back to the asset.

o        If a waiting session ID exists for the asset, it connects to the session.

o        If the poll rate was edited in the Access application, the new poll rate is sent to the asset.

Note: For asset that also have Axeda® Connector or Axeda® Gateway installed, the poll rate is separate from the asset's ping rate. Activities that normally occur based on an asset's ping rate will continue to do so according to the frequency defined for the ping rate; they will not occur more or less frequently when the asset contacts the Platform according to the poll rate. Contact made based on the poll rate is for unattended operation activity only.
