Available ONLY for: Axeda Gateway Agents, Axeda Connector Agents, and for Axeda IDM Agents (SoftwareDirector packages)
After you select the Execute Application instruction, the Package Instructions page requests the following information:
o Application - Type the name of the executable file that starts the application on the asset. If appropriate, include all or part the path to the file.
o Arguments - Type any command line arguments that may be required.
Note: A package for updating IDM Agents (IDM SoftwareDirector package) must have at least one Execute instruction and you must use one of several explicit arguments. For details, refer to Guidelines for Creating IDM SoftwareDirector Packages.
o Path is relative to asset's home directory - Select this option if you entered a relative path in the Application field. Otherwise, the Agent assumes the path is absolute.
Note: In this option, the asset's home directory is assumed to be the default directory for the Agent installation on the platform. For example, if the operating system on the asset is Windows, the default installation directory for an Axeda® Agent is c:\axeda\gateway c:\axeda\connector. The application assumes this directory in the path when you select this option.
o Execute the command asynchronously - Select this option if you want the Agent to open the application and continue processing the package. If you do not select this option (synchronous execution), the Agent will open the application and wait for it to close before continuing to process the package.
Note: AWP Agents support
two types of package instructions: downloading files to the agent and
uploading files from the agent. Axeda Agent Embedded supports file uploads
and file downloads; they also support the Restart instruction. These Agents
ignore any other instructions defined in a package.
Axeda IDM Agents support the Upload and Download instructions for simple
file transfers. In addition, if the package is an IDM SoftwareDirector
package, then the Execute instruction is required to perform the software
update for the IDM Agent. For details about creating an IDM SoftwareDirector
package to update the software for your IDM Agents, refer to Guidelines
for Creating IDM SoftwareDirector Packages. Any other instructions
in a package for an IDM Agent are ignored when the package is assembled
for delivery to the IDM Agent.
