As a user with privileges to the Axeda® Service application and to particular assets, you can start TotalAccess sessions with assets that are running Axeda® IDM Agents from the related Asset dashboards. These Asset dashboards display the TotalAccess Sessions module instead of the Remote Sessions module.
1. In the Asset dashboard of the asset with which you want to start a TotalAccess session, click the name of the connection type. For example, "VNC" (for remote desktop sessions using Axeda® Desktop Viewer) or "Telnet".
2. The first time you request a remote desktop or VNC session from your computer, you are prompted whether to install the ActiveX control for the TotalAccess Client Application. To be able to run the session, click Install. The ActiveX control contains a copy of Axeda® Desktop Viewer. After you click Install, the Active X control is downloaded and installed on your computer.
3. Once the Active X control is installed, the Platform prompts you to enter a brief description for the remote session. Type a brief explanation of the activity planned for the session.
4. From
this page, you can click Local Settings and Advanced Settings to change
the settings for this particular session. Click Local
Settings to override the connection type information currently
configured: The settings you can override follow:
Contactable - Command - Reserved for future use.
Does not apply to Axeda® Connected Product Management Applications.
Non-Contactable - Command - Override for Connection Type non-contactable
command. This command is used to start the client application and point
it at the tunnel.
Non-Contactable - First Port - The first port
to try when searching for an available port on the local browser machine.
Non-Contactable - Num Ports - The number of ports
to try when searching for an available port.
For more information about connection
type settings, refer to Enter the details
for this new TotalAccess connection type.
5. Click
Advanced Settings to change the
following information:
Logging - If enabled, a log file will be created
for the session. Select a Level from the list. For support cases, use
INFO (not TRACE!).
LAN Settings - select whether to always prompt
for proxy configuration; when you enable this option, the UI prompts the
user for proxy information.
LAN Settings - select whether to use Internet
Explorer proxy settings or a proxy server who's Address you supply. When
entering the address, use the format host:port.
6. To notify the asset of the remote session request when the asset next contacts the Axeda® Platform, click Start Session. The Platform displays a message that it is waiting for the asset to retrieve the request. If necessary, you can cancel the request by clicking Cancel Session.
7. Once the asset contacts the Platform, the page updates with the status of the connection, session ID and time, Connection information (whether data is encrypted and protocol used for the connection). Under Ports, you will see the number of the port(s) available for the connection.
Important! Once a session is established, leaving this web page (including using the Back, Forward, or Refresh buttons of your browser) will cause the session to be terminated.
8. Once the connection is established, the TotalAccess Server prompts for approval of the Allow command. Click OK to allow the session to be established.
9. Launch the application for the remote session (Telnet, for example).
10. After you have completed your work with the remote asset, exit your remote application, and click End Session in the session page.
The Advanced Settings allow you to enable logging for remote sessions. If you cannot establish a session, enable logging and then check the log files to help determine the cause of the problem.
