Archiving Datasets Overview

The Axeda® Platform manages sets of data that can include any of the following: data item values, alarms, events, file uploads, audit logs, cases (if the Platform is licensed for Case Management), and deployments. Assets send data item values, alarms, and messages to the Platform, which analyzes the data, performs actions on the data or based on the data (as configured), makes the data available to Application end users, stores the data in the Platform, and so forth. In addition, files uploaded from assets and audit records are also saved to the Platform. The items managed by the database are called "datasets."

The Platform recognizes the following types of managed datasets:

o        Online data - data that is fully accessible at all times through the Axeda® Connected Product Management Applications (for example, for business rules, actions, reports, trending, and so forth).

o        Near-line data - data that resides in the Platform but is not readily to available users; although still in the Platform, this data does not appear in any Axeda Applications pages.

Online data is visibly available in the Axeda Applications. The Dataset Archiving policy enables you to move data from online to near-line, which frees up critical space in the interface and Platform. You can also move near-line data back to online, so that it can be viewed, searched, and used in the Axeda Applications.

Using your own third party exporting tools, you can manually move near-line data to offline for permanent archiving. In a similar manner you can import offline data to near-line.

Note: Case Management is a separately licensed application. If the Platform is not licensed for Case Management, the Case application and associated tools and features will not display in the Axeda Applications. Contact Axeda Technical Support for more information.
