Add Asset

Shows all assets already configured for management by the Axeda® Gateway agent running on this gateway asset. From this page, you can add or remove assets from this gateway. If you remove an asset from connection to this gateway, it will continue to register its data directly with the Platform until it is connected to another gateway.

Only assets to which you have privileges and which are configured for gateway management appear in this list of assets.

If your environment requires that managed assets be monitored by more than one Axeda Gateway, you can configure the Platform for "redundant-gateways" mode. By default, the Platform runs in "non-redundant-gateways" mode, which means that the Gateway that registers the managed asset first is the Gateway that manages the asset. If you have enabled redundant-gateways mode, then the list of Available Assets includes assets that have already been assigned to other Gateways. Otherwise, the list excludes assets that have been assigned to another Gateway. To enable or disable redundant-gateways mode, contact your Platform administrator.

Note: When the Platform is running in redundant-gateways mode, you must associate a managed asset with an Axeda Gateway before you can modify Gateway properties for the asset. After adding a managed asset in this page, its name appears in the table of Gateway Assets on the Gateway Configuration page. The asset name is a link you can click to provide a Modified Value for a Gateway configuration parameter (in the Specify gateway configuration parameters page).

o Available or Selected Assets - name of the asset you can add to the gateway (Available) or already configured for the gateway (Selected)

From this page, you can add or remove assets for this gateway; and search the Platform for other assets not shown. Click the title of a procedure to display it; click the title again to hide the procedure:

To select the assets for this gateway

1. Do one of the following to add assets to this gateway:

a. In the Available Assets list, select the check box(es) for all the assets you want to add to this gateway and click Add Checked.

b. To add all assets shown in the current page of the table, click the check box in the table header and then click Add Checked.

c. To add all assets in the Available Assets table, click Add All. If there are multiple pages in the table, all assets from all pages are added.

The Selected Assets table shows all assets you added.

2. Do one of the following to remove assets from this gateway:

a. In the Selected Assets list, select the check box(es) for all the assets you want to remove from this gateway and click Remove Checked.

b. To remove all assets shown in the current page of the table, click the check box in the table header and then click Remove Checked.

c. To remove all assets in the Selected Assets table, click Remove All. If there are multiple pages in the table, all assets from all pages are removed.

The Available Assets table shows all assets you removed.

3. If you are finished adding or removing assets for this gateway, click Add to Gateway below the tables.

If you want to cancel any changes made to this page without saving to the gateway, click Cancel.

To search for an asset

As in all Axeda Applications pages, you are restricted to viewing and accessing only those assets and models to which you have privileges.

The search asset form supports multiple levels of filtering. For example, you can view all assets of a specific model, only those assets that are installed at a specified location, only those assets with names beginning with "Dev" installed at a specific location, and so on.

1. Click Asset Search.

2. In the displayed popup form, type or select the information identifying the Platform items you want to find, as follows:

Name: name of the asset

Serial Number: serial number of the asset

Model: model number for the asset

Organization: name of organization

Location: city, state, and/or country

Asset Group: name of an asset group to which the asset is assigned

Asset Conditions: current status or condition of asset (these asset conditions are created in Configuration application)

3. Click Search. The Platform entries found according to your search criteria appear in Available Assets table.

If you leave all filter boxes blank or at their defaults and click Search, the Platform shows all assets.

To close the form without searching

In the displayed popup form, click Cancel or click the "Asset Search" name in the table heading. Any search values you may have typed or selected are ignored.

Tips

o The Gateway agent synchronizes changes made from this page, the Axeda® Deployment Utility, and Axeda® Builder by always using the xGateway.xml file with the most recent date. If you add managed assets here, be careful when changing the project from Axeda Builder.

o Before downloading the project files from Axeda Builder to the asset, make sure that you are not downloading xGateway.xml; if it is downloaded, any asset management changes you've made in the Configuration application will be overwritten. Refer to the Axeda Builder documentation and online help for complete information about downloading projects from Axeda Builder.
